Sorghum cultivation transforms livelihood of smallholders in Juja

By Christine Lagat NAIROBI, (Xinhua) — Kenya’s Teresia Kunga’s two-acre farm is a case study in transformation as the middle-aged mother of three adopt simple but effective tools to convert an otherwise dry expanse into a breadbasket.

Kunga has defied the harsh elements in her locality to illustrate the power of home grown innovations to transform subsistence farming, achieve food security and broaden the family’s income.

As a pioneer adopter of sorghum farming in Juja division, Kiambu County, Kunga ignored doomsayers to prove that new ventures despite risks associated with them can reward handsomely.
